On March 10, wind turbine giant Vestas officially announced its confirmation as the turbine supplier for RWE's Vanguard East offshore wind project in the eastern North Sea off the coast of the United Kingdom.

This marks another major collaboration between Vestas and RWE within just two weeks, following the acquisition of the Vanguard West project half a month ago.

Vestas V236-15.0 MW

Both the Eastern Pioneer and Western Pioneer projects have an installed capacity of 1.38 GW, each procuring 92 Vestas V236-15.0 MW offshore wind turbines. Vestas will supply, deliver, commission, and grid-connect the turbines for both projects, accompanied by five-year operation and maintenance service contracts and long-term operational support agreements.

To date, the collaboration between Vestas and RWE Energy on two projects has reached a total installed capacity of 2.76 GW, supplying a combined total of 184 V236-15.0 MW wind turbines.

Rhein Energy plans to make final investment decisions (FID) on two major projects in summer 2026. The Western Pioneer Project is expected to connect to the grid and commence operations in 2029, while the Eastern Pioneer Project is scheduled to begin operations in 2030.

Previously, RWE Energy secured a total of 6.9 GW in development quotas during the UK's seventh round of feed-in tariff auctions. With this order now finalized, wind turbine suppliers have been officially confirmed for 2.76 GW of that capacity.
