World’s Tallest Wind Turbine (365m) Resumes Construction

In the Lusatia region of the German state of Brandenburg, construction on the world’s tallest wind turbine project officially resumed at the end of March 2026 following a brief hiatus. With a total height of 365 meters and a hub height of 300 meters, the turbine will become the world’s tallest wind power facility upon completion.

This wind turbine features a telescoping tower design: the unit is first partially installed at a height of 150 meters, then lifted as a single unit to a height of 300 meters using a hydraulic system. At this height, the turbine not only captures stronger and more consistent wind energy but also avoids causing airflow interference with neighboring turbines.

According to estimates, this wind turbine can generate 30-33 GW of electricity annually, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 7,500 four-person households. Because wind resources at high altitudes are of higher quality, the levelized cost of electricity is expected to be kept below 5 euro cents per kilowatt-hour, significantly lower than that of onshore wind power.

This project, commissioned by the German Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation (SPRIND) and developed by GICON, broke ground in July 2025 and was originally scheduled for completion in the summer of 2026. Due to quality issues, the exact completion date has not yet been finalized; however, the project team remains committed to connecting the wind turbines to the grid by the end of 2026.
