Indian wind turbine leader Suzlon is accelerating its strategic deployment across the European market. Girish Tanti, Executive Vice Chairman of the Suzlon Group, recently revealed in an interview that the company will officially move forward with plans to build its first wind turbine assembly factory in Europe, provided new order volumes in the region meet expectations.
Earlier this year, Suzlon officially launched its brand-new Suzlon 2.0 development strategy, marking the restart of its global expansion drive. Europe has been designated a core priority market under the new strategy. The group has also appointed Paulo Soares, a veteran executive with extensive experience at both Western and international enterprises, as President of Europe to strengthen local operational capabilities. On the product side, Suzlon unveiled its all-new Blue Sky wind turbine platform in Europe this April, launching flagship 5MW and 6.3MW models tailored to diversified demand across Europe and other global overseas markets.
Addressing widespread market attention over its supply chain and factory plans, Girish Tanti stated that Suzlon has established close cooperation with European local subsuppliers. The company aims to leverage regional supply resources to the fullest and develop wind turbines that meet global technical standards. He emphasized that order volume is the core prerequisite for local manufacturing. Once secured sufficient orders, Suzlon will definitely proceed with factory construction, with the timeline determined by market conditions and project scale. As for location selection, planning is still in the early stage. The group will flexibly choose between partnering with existing local manufacturers for outsourcing production or building its own production base, based on where future orders are concentrated.
Suzlon currently hosts its European headquarters in Denmark, with subsidiaries operating in Spain, Portugal, Turkey and Romania. Historically weighed down by financial crises, Suzlon drastically scaled back its overseas business and retreated to its home market in India. Now, riding on India’s booming renewable energy growth, Suzlon has returned to profitability and embarked on a new round of global expansion.
