Attention! Seven New National Standards for Wind Energy in the United States Are Here

Recently, the American Renewable Energy Standards and Certification Association (ARESCA) announced a major initiative: it will formally adopt seven international wind energy standards developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission's Technical Committee on Wind Power Generation Systems (IEC/TC 88) as national standards for the U.S. wind energy sector. This action not only ends the previous situation of parallel standards but also accelerates the global wind energy industry's progress toward unified standards.

The seven standards now in effect comprehensively cover core aspects of the entire wind power life-cycle, precisely addressing key industry needs.

ARESCA 61400-4-1-202x (Transmission System Reliability): adopts IEC 61400-4-1 ED1:202x to conduct reliability assessments on transmission system components of wind turbines, thereby establishing a solid foundation for stable equipment operation.

ARESCA 61400-24-202x (Lightning Protection): Adheres to IEC 61400-24 ED3:202x, specifying technical requirements for lightning protection in wind power equipment to safeguard against extreme weather threats to turbine safety.

ARESCA 61400-25-2-202x (Monitoring and Control Communication): adopts IEC 61400-25-2 ED3:202x to establish a wind farm monitoring information model, enhancing the intelligence level of operation and maintenance management.

ARESCA 61400-27-3-202x (Frequency Domain Model for Harmonic Propagation Studies): Based on IEC 61400-27-3 ED1:202x, this standard focuses on harmonic propagation analysis in wind power systems. It establishes a frequency domain modeling framework covering wind turbines, collection lines, converters, and grid interface.

ARESCA 61400-27-4-202x (Electromagnetic Transient Modeling): adopts IEC 61400-27-4 ED1:202x to specify the modeling and parameter standards for electromagnetic transient characteristics of wind turbine generators (including the complete unit, generator, converter, and control system).

ARESCA 61400-28-2-202x (Decommissioning and Recycling Preparation): Adopting IEC 61400-28-2 ED1:202x, this standard focuses on green and low-carbon development, specifying the environmental treatment procedures for wind power equipment after decommissioning.

ARESCA 61400-50-5-202x (Wind Energy Measurement Technology): adopts IEC 61400-50-5 ED1:202x to establish application standards for scanning Doppler lidar, enhancing the accuracy of wind energy resource assessment.
