Denmark’s offshore wind sector has ushered in major developments, and Vestas is poised to secure a substantial order.

The Danish Energy Agency confirmed that bids have been submitted for two offshore wind projects located in the North Sea and Hesselø following the tender deadline on May 20, 2026. The combined installed capacity of the two schemes will reach no less than 1.8GW.

The agency is now reviewing the proposals, with the final results set to be released by January 2027 at the latest.

As a core player in Denmark’s wind energy chain and a leading global wind turbine manufacturer, Vestas is keeping a close eye on the tender. While the winning bidders have not been announced, Vestas has stated that it and local wind energy suppliers are fully ready for equipment delivery. Once completed, the projects will generate orders worth billions of euros for Denmark’s domestic industry.

Morten Dyrholm, Head of Communications and Public Affairs at Vestas, noted that the company and its industrial partners are ready to deliver the required capacity to strengthen Denmark’s energy security and long-term competitiveness.

The 1.8GW pipeline comes as a much-needed boost for Denmark’s sluggish wind market. Over the past three years, the country has installed merely 21 wind turbines with a total capacity of 38.4MW, and only eight units were added in 2025.

The new projects will drive robust equipment demand. To develop the 1.8GW capacity, 180 units of 10MW turbines or 120 units of 15MW large-scale turbines will be required, delivering remarkable scale benefits.

Details regarding bidders and the number of submissions remain undisclosed. The two awarded wind farms are scheduled to be commissioned by 2032.

Ahead of the final results, Vestas and local supply chains have made thorough preparations, demonstrating strong confidence in capturing the major domestic contracts.
