Vestas Set to Land Massive Order

Last Wednesday, the UK held a milestone offshore wind project tender, awarding developers a total of 8.4GW of offshore wind development capacity—setting a new industry record.

The biggest winner in this tender was Germany's RWE Group, which secured development contracts for nearly 6.9 GW of offshore wind projects—accounting for over 80% of the total tendered capacity.

If the project proceeds smoothly, combined with the company's existing operational and under-construction capacity of 11GW, the total installed capacity will reach 17.9GW. Rhine Group is poised to become Europe's largest offshore wind operator in one fell swoop.

Rhein Group's impressive track record could prove highly beneficial for Vestas. As a core partner of the Rhine Group, Vestas has previously secured three offshore wind orders from the group. Although Vestas is not the Rhine Group's exclusive supplier, industry observers widely anticipate that based on the long-standing cooperation and proven track record between the two companies, Vestas is likely to secure a substantial share of this new 6.9GW project.

Vestas CEO Henrik Andersen's actions also corroborate this prediction. Immediately after the tender was finalized, he congratulated the UK government and all companies involved in this successful bid. On LinkedIn, he posted: “Now, the ‘important work’ begins.”
