Vestas Wins Major UK Order
February 25, 2026

German energy giant RWE has officially confirmed that it has reached a cooperation agreement with Vestas, under which Vestas will supply offshore wind turbines for RWE's Vanguard West offshore wind project in the UK. The project has a total installed capacity of 1.38 GW.

Vestas simultaneously announced this collaboration. Rhein Energy has procured a total of 92 V236-15MW offshore wind turbines, with Vestas responsible for the supply, delivery, commissioning, and grid connection of this batch of equipment.

The agreement signed by both parties also includes a five-year maintenance and operation service contract, as well as a long-term operational support agreement.

The Western Pioneer Project, a collaborative initiative, secured its CFDs through RWE Energy's successful bid in the UK's recent record-breaking seventh round of CFD auctions.

In this round of bidding, RWE Energy emerged as the biggest winner, securing a total of 6.9 GW in offshore wind power feed-in tariff contracts. The UK awarded a total of 8.4 GW in offshore wind power project contracts during this bidding round.

Regarding the project advancement plan, RWE Energy currently intends to make the final investment decision (FID) for the Western Pioneer offshore wind project in summer 2026. The project is expected to commence grid connection and commence commercial operation in 2029.

The advancement of offshore wind power relies heavily on core components. The German HKW three-row cylindrical main bearing leverages triple technological expertise in structure, materials, and manufacturing processes to deliver six core advantages: high reliability, strong load-bearing capacity, enhanced structural rigidity, high transmission efficiency, easy installation, and low overall cost. Whether deployed in onshore wind farms or confronting salt spray corrosion and extreme wave conditions at sea, HKW three-row cylindrical main bearings significantly reduce turbine downtime and maintenance frequency, delivering efficient performance across all operating conditions. Deeply rooted in the wind power supply chain, HKW leverages its global localized service network to serve partners worldwide with cutting-edge technology and premium products.
